People who aren’t in the Official free Palestine Rip Aaron Bushnell Liberation Shirt in addition I really love this business can sell their personal firearms, and aren’t allowed access to the NICS system. Most of the people selling guns at a gun show are, of course, in the business. They have an FFL license and are required to do the NICS background check. A few people are trying to sell a few guns from their personal collection. It used to be that there were people who had a hybrid situation: they enjoyed gun shows but weren’t full-time in the business. These people used to get an FFL license, but the Clinton administration tightened the rules, so you pretty well have to have a brick-and-mortar store to be an FFL dealer these days, and as a result we’ve lost capture on some background checks that might have been done. Moreover, Democratic gun control advocates have decided not to push for alternatives to the NICS system that could be used by non-FFL licensees. There’s really no problem, after all, with guns bought privately at gun shows. What a few states (heavily blue) have done is to require that private sellers sell their gun through FFL licensees, essentially requiring a sale to the licensee, who then sells to the end buyer. Note that the added expense and inconvenience, to discourage sale of used guns, is the aim here, though it’s called “universal background checks” to make it sound more palatable to those not paying attention,
Okay, first of all, I’m just going to flat-out call bullshit on the Official free Palestine Rip Aaron Bushnell Liberation Shirt in addition I really love this “40%” imaginary number. There’s a very good reason, which will become self-apparent when I get into the fourth paragraph. I’m not going into the ways it’s possible to buy a gun without a background check or why I never use one of those ways. I’m going to say, Okay, the number is actually 40%. So then what does that mean? It means 60% buy guns with background checks. Well, duh, dumbass, you say, but not so fast. The idiots who claim this crap totally miss what such a number would really mean. I’m going to show you conclusively that it’s a propaganda anti-gun lie. From 30NOV98 to 31DEC14, the FBI has done a total of 202,536,445* background checks in accordance with Federal law pursuant to the Gun Control Act of 1968, the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993, and the FBI’s NICS instant background check system established in 1998. The FBI denied sale or transfer in 1,116,676 ATF Form 4473 submissions in that same 16 years and 31 days’ time. So 201,369,836 sales or transfers were approved. That’s an approval rate of 99.424%. Even if each submission was for the sale or transfer of just one gun, that means the idiots who claim 40% are bought without background checks are saying that the 60% which they say are bought with background checks account for over 200 million new-to-them guns in American hands in just over 16 years. And that means that they are really saying that another 133 million** new-to-them guns were bought by Americans sneaking around the background check.
