The men who assert this clearly have a high opinion of themselves, and a low opinion of us. All I can say is that I’d rather be inferior and stand for the rights of women than consider myself an “alpha” and be a bigot and chauvinist. Just like you don’t have to be gay to fight for gay rights, fighting for women to be respected as much as you are doesn’t imply giving up your stereotypical masculine traits or tastes. The “toxic masculinity” concept revolves around men being stripped of their right to have fear, be vulnerable, wear nail polish if they want, or shaving (I’m making examples here) without being called many colorful names that imply they are somehow less deserving of the sex they were born with or identify with. It’s not about being more feminine, it’s about having the right to be human.

Conversely, why are men who are not feminists so afraid of women being equal? And how can you justify this “masculinity” while embracing such an irrational fear. I have no desire for these traits of masculinity that rely on other people being weaker. Especially when that weakness is imaginary. I’ve known women stronger than me, and it does not make me feel less masculine. I’ve known women smarter than me, and it does not make me feel less masculine. In my 20 year career I’ve had more female bosses than male and it does not make me feel less masculine. I go to work every day. I take care of my disabled wife and my children. I love them. I’m not afraid to cry and I’m not afraid to wear pink.
