I am an atheist and I don’t believe that one day God came down to speak to Abraham or spoke to Moses through a bush, but I want to know where this idea came from that formed so many people’s beliefs over the centuries. How did the Idea of God come to be? The world can be a very frightening place. Imagine what it must have been like for our very distance progenitors many thousands of years ago. They knew virtually nothing of the universe and lived in a world fraught with danger. They didn’t even understand things like storms and eclipses. Also, they tended to be attacked by wild animals at a rate far greater than today. They feared many things.

In some cultures, this assumption also applied to man made creations, and even names. Such primitive assumptions he called “animism.”
